Documentation Example

This is an example of documentation which is included with every template. It contains all the required information to start off easily.

Introduction

Thank you for purchasing "template" for vldPersonals. If you have any questions or you have any ideas of how to improve this Please, read carefully prior installation. Below you may find several screenshots which will help you to start off easily and give you some ideas about vldPersonals terminology.

Template Installation

Install vldPersonals. It is recommended to use the latest vldPersonals package.
Unpack downloaded package on your hard drive. There are three folders inside this package: Photoshop Files, Template Files and Documentation. Go to "Template Files" folder - go to the folder with your vldPersonals version (2.5.7 for example) - find your template folder inside this one. Upload "template" folder into the "templates" folder on your server.
Important: Using your FTP program set the following folder' permissions to 777 - template/tmp
Now you can login to your vldPersonals Control Panel and go to Settings -> Templates. Install template. Then you may activate it by going to Settings and choose Look and Feel in the dropdown menu.

Edit Custom Settings

template has unique settings file, which you can edit easily. It gives you more layout options, adds several interesting and useful features.
Open template/settings.tpl with your favorite plain text editor. Read description for each option. Edit settings. Please, note the syntax. Save settings.tpl and upload it back to your server. Refresh your web site. Changes will be visible immediately. If you don't see any changes go to template/tmp and delete all files except index.php. Now you may refresh the page.
Important: Do not use MS Word or any other word processor. Use NotePad or TextMate for example.

Change Logo

Open Photoshop Files/logo.psd in Photoshop and edit text layer. Save it as logo.png and place into the "template/media" folder replacing the original logo.png file.

Set Up Slideshow

Images for the slideshow are located in the "template/media/slides" folder. You may replace them with your pictures.
Find slide.psd in "Photoshop Files" folder. Use it as a template. Images should be in .jpg format. Image size: 700px wide by 230px tall.
What if you want to show more or less images in the slideshow? Open "template/header.tpl" Links to images are located in the following lines: 252, 253, 254. You can add as many links to your images as you wish.

Custom Font

template use custom font. You may notice how different titles are.
If you use other language than English and would like to keep this font - follow this steps:

  1. Visit font link.
  2. Download @font-face Kit for your language. (Choose "Don't subset" for multilingual websites.)
  3. Unpack archive.
  4. Go to template/font folder and replace all files with downloaded ones. Do not remove or overwrite font.css
  5. Refresh website.

Add Custom Texts

There are two welcome blocks block on the homepage. One for guests (only if you use classic layout). Another one for members. Create two new custom pages with label "homepage_welcome" and "homepage_welcome_in" (no quotation marks) to replace the text.
Footer. Create new custom page with label "seoblock" (no quotation marks) if you enabled SEO block in settings.tpl.
If you want to have a link to any particular custom page in the footer, add a custom tag to this page. Custom tag should be "footer" (no quotation marks).
Important: Make sure you don't have additional coding in the page body when you create custom pages . Click blue HTML button in the editing area and check that there are no extra tags, just text.
Important: If you don't have these custom pages created you will see {ext_page_name} and {ext_page_content} on the homepage.

Set Up Banners

For each banner spot you have to create a banner group with particular label. Go to Content -> Manage banners. If you have more than one banner in a group they will appear in random order. template has five main banner spots.

Create banners groups with related labels and add as many banners as you wish. It is not recommended to use banners with larger dimensions, use exact dimensions or smaller ones.
Footer banner is available for alternative footer layout only.
